Cadillac CTS-V GForce Performance 9" Rear End IRS Kit 2009-2015
Its no secret that stock IRS components can be a real weak point in these cars. Once power levels exceed the limitations of the stock diff, upgraded axles may hold up, but they expose the weak points in the differential. This is where the GForce 9” becomes a necessary upgrade.
Note : Some vehicles will have very little clearance around the passenger side factory 2 pc driveshaft carrier bearing mount and it may require you to “massage”, cut back, or remove the factory mount entirely, depending on available clearance for driveshaft movement.
Standard axles are Renegade, upgrade to Outlaw for $400 extra
Standard Poly Bushings, upgrade to Solid Aluminum Bushings for $100 extra
*Includes your choice of any Strange 9" gear set ratio
Description
The GForce 9” conversions are designed to take over where the OEM differential begins to suffer from strength and reliability concerns. This can happen at various levels of power or abuse for different platforms. No driveline component will ever be “bomb-proof” in a racing environment, but the GForce 9” kit will give you the best chance of rear-end survival and reliability, all while retaining the factory style IRS. Our 9” conversions use a Strange Engineering aluminum center section paired with the Strange S-Trac differential, which has proven to be a phenomenal combination to retain OEM-like drivability, while being able to support a tremendous amount of torque in a functional differential.
The bolt-in 9” kit eliminates the flex, noise, “clunking” and weak points of the OEM rear. Plus, you have the confidence knowing you are putting your power through a race-proven bulletproof rear end, but you get all the benefits and advantages an IRS can provide. In addition, the GForce 9” kit comes standard with 35 spline inner stubs. In fact it is the only 9” IRS on the market with the beefy 35-Spline inner axle stubs.
The GForce 9” has been proven to support 2000+ in “real-world” applications. The GForce 9” kit holds IRS records in the 1/4 mile, standing mile and 2-mile in wheel standing IRS vehicles. It’s safe the say the misconception that you cannot put power through an IRS and make it live has been officially debunked.
All GForce Engineering 9” housings are laser cut, bent on a CNC press brake and tig welded for flawless finish and unmatched strength. 9” kits can be purchased as a complete kit with pumpkin and driveshaft. Our preferred provider is Strange Engineering. GForce can also make you driveshafts specifically designed to work with the 9” replacement rear and most common transmission options.
More about GForce Engineering Renegade Axles
GForce Engineering Renegade axles are CNC machined from aerospace billet alloy. The proprietary material has been closely compared to the popular 300m alloy. In both our testing and in third party testing, we have found our alloy to have a higher tensile strength making it a stronger axle than comparable 300m axles. In addition, these axles are engineered to absorb the “shock” of a hard launch.
The real strength of the GForce Renegade axles comes from the billet, CNC machined CV internals. Traditional CV’s in this size would use 28-spline axles and “CV stars”. In this case, GForce machines billet 31 spline stars and 31 spline axles. This provides tighter tolerances and less wear as well as additional strength from premium materials and more spline engagement.
GForce 9” Kits Include the following:
Fabricated 9” housing (bolts to factory locations)
Heavy-duty front mount
Solid aluminum or poly bushings
35 Spline Inner and Outer Stubs
Renegade 9” axles
All necessary hardware
Third member to housing
Housing and front mount to cradle
HD aluminum Strange third member
4” aluminum driveshaft (New 4.0" aluminum driveshafts use upgraded tubing, billet Sonnax slip joints, and billet Sonnax direct bolt flanges)
Note: If you are interested in 31 spline diffs, the GForce 9” can be ordered with 31-spline inner stubs. Please call for more information on this application.
*GForce 9” Kits are designed to fit in the factory location and work with factory components with as little modification as possible. When installing a GForce 9” kit, it is up to the installer to check for clearance around all components, including potential clearance issues from drivetrain and suspension movement. Modification might be necessary for driveshaft clearance, especially with exhaust. 9” kits are not guaranteed to fit with ANY other aftermarket products.
Damage Prevention
NO DRIVELINE COMPONENT IS BOMBPROOF! GForce does not put a power rating on any driveline components as there are entirely too many variables that can affect a driveline component other than just horsepower. We take great pride in building the strongest driveline components to fit certain applications, but it is important to know that YOU, the end customer, are responsible for proper installation and YOU, as the driver, are responsible for the lifespan of your axles or other driveline components. Most of the applications we are working with are heavy vehicles and we are often asking a lot of the driveline components, be it OEM or aftermarket. These heavier cars, paired with high torque levels make all driveline components more susceptible to failure due to small mistakes, such as wheel hop. Many customers understand that wheel hop, tire shake, tire skipping, tire chatter are all bad things but there is often a misunderstanding of how destructive it can really be. The heavier the vehicle and more torque the vehicle is making, the more your window of forgiveness begins to narrow. This can result in CV’s loosening prematurely and more severely, splined stubs and axle bars twisting or shearing, which is NOT a fault of the axle. So please use your best judgement when driving in any given scenario, be it on the track or the street.
It is worth noting that most wheel hop related issues rarely cause an immediate failure, with certain exceptions. The result of repeated cycling torque spikes will often weaken the material of a given component such as an axle bar or stub shaft. Then each subsequent hit will continue to weaken the component until it fails completely. If you know that you have driven through a particularly abusing situation, it would be wise to pull the axles and assess the splines of the inner and outer stub shafts as a maintenance procedure. If they have started to twist or shift, then you might be able to prevent a more catastrophic failure. We encourage all end users to read up on the appropriate measures that they can take to help prevent wheel hop with their specific vehicle. This can be anything such as aftermarket bushings, shocks, springs, control arms, tire type, or excessively low tire pressure. Two of the most fundamental pieces we look at to help control rear end movement and prevent wheel hop start with the cradle and differential bushings. Both of these bushing sets are often very soft from the factory and although they provide smooth ride quality, they allow a considerable amount of movement in a performance scenario. Which can lead to a number of concerns or issues.

Lowered Vehicle Information
GForce axle shafts were manufactured based on OEM suspension. Aftermarket shocks, control arms, etc. may present clearance issues. If CV boots have clearance issues, low profile boots can be purchased at an upgraded cost. The low profile boots reduce the amount of available axle angle in comparison to the standard boots, so they are not ideal for lowered or high axle angle vehicles. If you have questions or would like to add low profile boots to your axles, please contact us for more information.
Maintenance Information
All driveline components will fatigue or wear over time depending on how the vehicle is driven and what level of performance is demanded from them. CV joints are a wear item and will see wear over time, but with our current design, axles can be sent in for service. So boots, fasteners, and CV assemblies can be serviced without scrapping the complete axle assembly. It is up to each customer to establish their own maintenance intervals based upon the manner in which their car is driven. Individual inner or outer splined stubs and axle bars can be replaced as well if they twist or are damaged due to wheel hop or simply from power levels exceeding capability of the material.
